BDS offers analyses that specifically target dioxins, dioxin-like PCBs, nondioxin-like PCBs and PAHs. In addition to the screenings for adverse compounds, CALUX® assays are used in screenings for potentially beneficial functional traits of food products. With our DNA-based authentication service we also offer the possibility of tracing the origin of food constituents such animal species included in meat-containing products.
The presence of dioxins and PCBs in food and feed is subjected to international regulations. The EU has laid down general requirements for the determination of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in food and feed using cell-based bioassays.
The DR CALUX® bioassay (dioxins / furans and dioxine-like-PCBs) fully complies with these stringent requirements and is ISO 17025 accredited (registration number RvA L401). For samples that are suspected based on the DR CALUX® results, we offer confirmative analysis by GC-HRMS. Detection of nondioxin-like PCBs is performed by chemical analysis (GC-ECD; ISO 17025 (registration number RvA L401) accredited).
In addition to specific unwanted toxicants and constituents that determine the nutritional value, food products may contain compounds that could elicit a range of health promoting or adverse bioactive effects. Many effects related to e.g. anti-oxidant action, hormone disruption, modulation of metabolism, and genotoxicity can be detected with the CALUX® panel.
