Our AhR Receptor (DR) and Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ERα) CALUX Bioassays Approved for Monitoring Constituents of Emerging Concern (CECs) Per Recycled Water Policy from the California Water Boards, State Water Resources Control Board, for the use of two of its bioassays in recycled water monitoring. BDS has been approved for the use of both bioassays as bioanalytical screening tools for CECs in recycled water.
BDS decades of scientific expertise in developing screening tools that can help protect the environment and human health is now also recognised in the water testing in USA. We look forward to applying our additional bioassays (such as PFAS, obesity PPAR, oxidative Nrf2, androgen receptor AR, glucocorticoid receptor GR and thyroid hormone TR) that can help water utilities, boards and regulators everywhere monitor for contaminants that pose potential environmental and health risks.
Our director Dr. Peter Behnisch presented last week the current situation about international standardisation (e.g. ISO 19040-3 and ISO 24295) processes for this panel of CALUX bioassays as well as several application projects for the PFAS CALUX in water and soil in the Netherland (AquaConnect), in Germany, Austria and EU projects (such as PROMISCES).
As part of the approval process, BDS submitted validation packages for both its AhR and ERα assays. Both validation packages demonstrated the utility of the bioassays for use as biological screening tools for CECs as set forth in California’s Recycled Water Policy. These CALUX assays are useful in screening for biological activity due to CECs such as estradiol, bisphenol A, nonylphenol, dioxin-like chemicals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PFAS and pesticides.
